Discover the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum Collection

Our Collection

The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum cares for a fascinating collection that brings more than 300 years of Gloucestershire’s military history to life.

From medals and uniforms to photographs, personal letters, weapons and everyday objects, each item in our collection has a story to tell. Together, these objects help us understand the experiences of the soldiers who served, the conflicts they lived through and the people and communities they left behind.

Our collection is constantly growing and changing as we continue to preserve, research and share the history of Gloucestershire’s soldiers.

What will you find?

Every object has a story

A museum collection is more than a collection of objects. It is a collection of stories.

A medal can tell us about an act of courage. A photograph can put a face to a name. A letter can give us a glimpse into a soldier’s thoughts and experiences. Even the most ordinary object can help us understand what life was like for those who served.

Our collection allows you to look beyond the dates and battles of military history and discover the items associated to the people.
